James Lewis, Ph.D. (1975), a Clinical Neuropsychologist, has been named Child Welfare Advocate of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region by the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA).  Dana Wilson, the Director of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the CWLA, made the announcement on September 12.  Dr. Lewis has devoted much of his 27-year career in clinical psychology and neuropsychology to evaluating and treating underserved families who suffer physical and sexual abuse, “mental injuries”, and various forms of neglect.  The CWLA Advocacy Award also recognizes Lewis’ nearly three decades of service to private citizens and public agencies including local Departments of Social Services and Juvenile, District, and Circuit Courts in the Southern Maryland and Eastern Shore counties where Lewis has functioned as an expert examiner since 1976.  Dr. Lewis has served as Vice Chair of the Citizens’ Review Panel on Child Maltreatment in Prince George’s County since 1999 and is working on public education initiatives on “Prevention of Supervision Neglect.”  Lewis graduated from CUA in 1975 with a Doctoral Degree in child clinical psychology and neuropsychology.  He serves CUA as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Neuropsychology in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
