Anxiety Research

Research projects in our lab focus on cognitive factors in anxiety, with greatest emphasis on social and evaluation anxiety, and anxiety in sport performance.  Some of the areas addressed by previous and current studies include:

  • sport anxiety, mindfulness, and thoughts during sport in the context of mindfulness training for athletes

  • anxiety sensitivity, coping with panic, and thoughts during a biological challenge with Panic Disorder patients

  • social anxiety, perfectionism, and focus of attention in social interaction

  • test anxiety, worry, and five-factor personality variables as predictors of performance among law school alumni on the bar exam

  • cognition and anxiety as predictors of performance in the first year of law school

  • social anxiety, interdependence-independence, and the transition to college

  • cognitive self-statements in social phobia across different types of social situations

  • cognition and anxiety as predictors of performance on oral examinations
