Psychotherapy Research

Our psychotherapy research primarily focuses on work in psychotherapy integration, with an emphasis on trying to understand the way in which different approaches to psychotherapy are combined and integrated in actual practice.  Recent and current studies include work on:

  • decision-making theory and applications to integration of psychotherapy and             pharmacotherapy for depression

  • integrative therapy in manualized pure-form treatment for depression and its relation to psychotherapy outcome

  • assimilative integration of DBT into therapists’ primary theoretical orientation

  • assimilative integration of EMDR into therapists’ primary theoretical orientation

  • reported prototypical treatments in psychotherapy for PTSD in the community

  • apatient-treatment fit@ and early engagement in therapy

  • client perceptions of helpful and hindering aspects of psychotherapy

  • pure-form and integrative therapists, psychotherapy methods, and the outcome of psychotherapy
