The Catholic University of America

Welcome Letter from the Chair

Welcome to the website of the Department of Psychology at The Catholic University of America. I hope that the material provided here will help to inform you about some of the many opportunities available to you in our courses, our research laboratories, and throughout the University.

Our department is oriented to providing both graduate and undergraduate training in a variety of areas of psychology, with specialization at the doctoral level in Clinical, Applied Experimental, and Human Development. Each of these programs is described in detail elsewhere on our site. Our undergraduate course offerings range from Psychology and Technology to Close Interpersonal Relationships, from the Psychology of Women and Men to the Psychology of Visual Art. Our graduate concentrations include a Child and Family track in Clinical Psychology, specialization in Cognitive Aging, and Peer Interactions and Moral Development, to name a few.

We are constantly working to improve the offerings we provide for our students. To that end, we have recently put together a new concentration in Children, Families, and Cultures. This specialty will be available through both our Clinical and Developmental Ph.D.s, and will also form a focus for interested MA and BA students.

Graduates from our department have found many interesting job opportunities. Undergraduates have gone on to advanced study not only in psychology but also in fields such as law, medicine, business, education, or social work. Both graduates and undergraduates have found interesting positions in mental health, research facilities, and academia.

Please visit the rest of our site and feel free to contact individuals or program directors in the areas that most interest you. If you cannot find the information you need here, you can contact our Department Office at (202) 319-5750.

And of course, you may want to supplement your virtual tour with a visit to the actual CUA campus. We would be happy to show you our facilities. We are proud of our program and our students, and I sincerely hope that we will have an opportunity to tell you more about Psychology at CUA.

Sincerely,

Marc M. Sebrechts, Ph.D.
Professor and Chair
